LIHI Property Accounting Manager

POSITION TYPE: Exempt Management Position

The Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) is a private nonprofit organization that develops and operates housing for people who are low-income and/or homeless, provides technical assistance to other non-profit organizations, and advocates for housing justice.  LIHI seeks a LIHI Agency Accounting Manager who is supportive of this mission.  The organization manages a $15 million budget, which includes $7 million for the agency and another $8 million in managed properties and partnership-owned properties comprising some 1,600 housing units.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The LIHI Agency Accounting Manager performs complex financial and operational work to support short term and long range planning and operating budgets. Coordinates the preparation of financial statements for the properties, the annual partnership audits, and financial reports to outside entities. Supervises senior accountants.

The position is responsible for the management of all aspects of the financial operations of LIHI’s rental properties.

The duties of the position include:

General Ledger Accounting for LIHI

  • Maintain subsidiary ledgers for all balance sheet accounts monthly.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations for agency accounts.
  • Establish a 10th of the month closing date.
  • Account for pre-development cash accounts.
  • File B&O tax returns.
  • Prepare all general ledger entries related to benefits.

Coordinate Annual LIHI Partnership Audits

  • Coordinate additional audits of LIHI that might be required by investors, taxing authorities, etc.
  • Engage in special projects as required.

    Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Five years of accounting experience.
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or closely related field.
    • CPA.
    • Experience in development/construction or property management or nonprofit accounting.
