The Low Income Housing Institute is a non-profit housing development organization which provides housing development, finance, and property management services to increase the supply of low-income housing and to work for housing justice. LIHI owns or manages more than 1500 housing units in the Puget Sound Area. This position will provide administrative support to an affordable housing complex in Auburn, WA

Responsibilities:
The Housing Assistant is responsible for providing support to housing programs operated by the Low Income Housing Institute. 
She/he will carry out such duties as needed and directed by the Area Manager including collecting rents and entering information in the property management software; working with applicants and residents to complete eligibility paperwork; coordinating with utility and repair vendors; and other duties. This is a non-exempt position.

  • Assist staff with administrative and program work related to the operating of permanent and social service projects at LIHI. Includes troubleshooting applicant and resident concerns, as well as coordination of the housing application process.
  • Collect rents, enter information into property management software, and make daily deposits.
  • Assist with writing and word-processing including preparation of spreadsheets, grants, funding applications, correspondence and reports as related to the housing programs. 
  • Answer questions, phone inquiries and screen calls for staff as needed.
  • Type, file, photocopy, process transmittals/mailings and other office duties.
  • Coordinate with vendors to do repairs; forward maintenance request forms to LIHI's maintenance department; track maintenance work and needs.
  • Fill in for LIHI's Office Assistant or Administrative Assistant as requested
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of four years of progressively responsible related work experience in clerical/administrative work, human services, housing or grant writing. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality staff support. A college degree may substitute for a portion of the work experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people with sensitivity to cultural and class issues, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice and/or low income housing.

This is a unionized position, represented by Local 8 of the Office of Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU).
