The Low Income
Housing Institute (LIHI) develops and operates housing for people
who are low-income and/or homeless, provides technical assistance to
communities and other non-profits, and advocates for housing
justice.
LIHI owns and operates apartment buildings for low-income families and individuals. Many of the complexes have community facilities including playgrounds, computer labs, and community rooms. This .5 FTE position is assigned to the Meadowdale Apartments in Lynnwood, WA.
The Case Manager is responsible for establishing relationships with community referral agencies and their case managers and working at several LIHI properties to intervene in tenant crises, provide informal counseling to tenants as needed, provide information and referral assistance to tenants, and coordinate community-building activities.
The Housing Assistant is responsible for providing support to housing programs at various projects operated by the Low Income Housing Institute. She/he will carry out such duties as needed and directed by the Area Manager or other assigned supervisor including collecting rents and entering information into the property management software; working with applicants and residents to complete eligibility paperwork; coordinating with utility and repair vendors; and other duties.RESPONSIBILITIES:
Information and Referral/Case Management:
- Build
effective relationships with tenants.

Become knowledgeable of information and referral resources. Provide information and referral to residents, including through distribution of written material.
- Maintain updated information tools for tenant use in accessing community resources.

- Formally and informally assess tenants as to current level of functioning and social service needs.

Offer case management for selected residents, either referred by building management as at risk of eviction or self-identified.
- Make referrals or initiate services to address mental health, substance abuse, and disability issues wherever possible.
- Coordinate
with local agencies to provide services that meet the needs of
LIHI residents.
- Work
collaboratively with building management and
Supportive Services
team to increase stability and retention of tenants in LIHI
housing.
COMMUNITY
BUILDING:
- Coordinate with community organizations, public agencies, and volunteers to provide on-and off-site activities for residents.
- Initiate
and encourage resident involvement in community-building
activities, such as community meals, holiday celebrations and
support groups.
- Produce
needed written materials, including community newsletters.
- Contribute
to the development of a community that values cultural
diversity.
ADMINISTRATIVE:
- Participate
in staff meetings and planning sessions.
- Report
regularly to
Supportive Services
Manager on programmatic issues.
- Maintain records of activities and contacts with tenants/agencies and case management records.
- Complete other records and reports appropriate to the position as directed by the Supportive Services Manager.

Assist staff with administrative and program work related to the operating of
permanent and social service projects at LIHI. Includes troubleshooting applicant and resident concerns, as well as coordination of the housing application process.

Collect rents, enter information into property management software, and make daily deposits.

Answer questions, phone inquiries and screen calls for staff as needed.

Type, file, photocopy, process transmittals/mailings and other office duties.

Coordinate with vendors to do repairs; forward maintenance request forms to LIHI maintenance department; track maintenance work and needs.
OTHER:
- Participate
in public policy advocacy efforts including recruiting residents
to attend public meetings and testify at hearings.
- Participate
in fundraising for the
Supportive Services
department by providing information and feedback for grant
applications; and helping establish community contacts.
- Perform
other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Social Work or related field, from an accredited
institution.
- At
least two years experience working with homeless or low-income
populations, including persons with mental health disabilities
and substance abuse problems.
- Knowledge
of local resources for homeless and low-income people.
- Ability
to work well with community agencies and resources.
- Commitment
to social change through the empowerment of low-income people.
- Excellent
communication skills, both written and verbal.

Current
Washington
State
driver’s license.
- Current
Washington State Counselor’s Registration, or equivalent State qualification.
- Computer
experience.
